Utah has experienced 16 earthquakes since the pioneers settled in Utah in 1847. More than 36,000 earthquakes have happened in Utah since 1962. The Wasatch Fault line 240 miles. It starts in Malad, ID and ends in Fayette, Utah.
Most earthquake damage is caused by Shaking. Beside the shaking of the ground, land liquefaction and landslides are some of the side effects of earthquakes. Land liquefaction is the process that occurs when an earthquake shakes wet sandy soil until it behaves like a liquid, allowing sand to “boil up” to the surface, buildings to sink, or sloping ground to move. Earthquakes can also cause fires, damage to roads and bridges, dam failures, and rock fall.
We can reinforce homes and building and road and bridges.
If an earthquake is happening you should drop under a sturdy furniture and hold on. Stay there until the shaking stops. Then try not to die! Try to stay out of areas where things can fall.
